Dave McAlpin, Executive Director of CASA
Dave McAlpin has been the Executive Director of CASA of Missoula since 2006. He manages the organization, helps recruit volunteers, and serves as a CASA himself. Dave formerly worked for the American Cancer Society as statewide project director of ProtectMontanaKids.org, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson foundation to prevent the use of tobacco in Montana through increasing the tobacco tax and passing legislation to prohibit smoking in public places. Because of that work, Dave has been asked to present at several Centers for Disease Control workshops around the nation. Locally, Dave was campaign manager for the successful 2006 Missoula County Open Space bond, is a member of the Missoula County Tobacco Prevention coalition, and the Conservation Voters of Western Montana. Statewide, Dave serves as a State Legislator for House District 94 and is the Minority Whip in the House of Representatives. He has received state and national healthcare awards for his work on tobacco prevention and policies to prevent youth obesity. He was appointed by Gov. Schweitzer to the state Tobacco Use Prevention Advisory Board in 2005. Nationally, Dave was a 2006 fellow of the Flemming Leadership Institute, one of only 32 emerging leaders from around the country to be selected. Also a founding member of the Progressive States Network in 2005, Dave is an active member of the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators. Since coming to CASA Dave has authored several successful grants for CASA from organizations including the Gallagher Foundation of Western Montana, the United Way of Missoula County, and an expansion grant from the National CASA organization, Missoula CASA’s first ever. To apply to become a CASA, phone 542-1208 or email casamissoula@gmail.com for more information. Visit the National CASA site for more information about CASA.
